Houston could be next Knicks GM

Former New York Knicks shooting guard Allan Houston is the favorite to become the team’s next GM.

He is currently functioning as the special assistant to the team president, giving him the inside track.

It’s good that Houston is gaining some experience, but I find it hard to believe he is ready for such a high profile job.

Isiah Thomas is also trying to return to the position and is considered another possible candidate.

If the Knicks were for some reason to bring back Thomas, the city of New York could be burned down by the fans.

Curry absent from summer league play

New York Knicks big man Eddy Curry was not present for the team’s play in summer league.

That doesn’t go over particularly well with head coach Mike D’ Antoni, who is expected a higher level of committment from him.

D’ Antoni said he is hopeful that Curry is working hard in the offseason and will come to camp ready to play.

It’s looking less and less likely that Curry plays any type of significant role with New York next season.

He is entering the final year of his contract, which makes him a very valuable trade commodity.

Knicks interested in Shaq

The New York Knicks are the latest team to express interest in veteran center Shaquille O’ Neal.

The Knicks are just one of several teams that are now bidding on the multi-time All-Star and MVP.

Shaq’s days of being a dominant player have come and gone, but teams always have a need for a big body to bang around in the post.

O’ Neal has expressed an interest in playing for the San Antoinio Spurs to play alongside Tim Duncan have a chance to win another title.

He is also interested in the Atlanta Hawks. The Knicks seems like a bad fit given their up-tempo style of play.

Knicks sign Stoudemire

The New York Knicks have signed forward Amare Stoudemire to a five-year contract worth almost $100 million.

Stoudemire has quickly started to hype up his new home, saying Tony Parker and Carmelo Anthony are ready to join him next year.

The signing gives the Knicks a bonafide superstar and their first real low-post threat since Patrick Ewing.

The forward and head coach Mike D’Antoni are holding out hope that Dwayne Wade or LeBron James may join the Knicks this year.

That looks like a remote possibility, as Wade appears locked into Miami or Chicago and James could stay in Cleveland.

Stoudamire, D’Antoni settle differences over breakfast?

The possibility of Amare Stoudamire joining the New York Knicks might rest on scrambled eggs. Or french toast.

The prized free agents power forward met with Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni for breakfast on Sunday morning, the purpose of the meeting to discuss their differences following their time together in Phoenix. D’Antoni made a name for himself in the desert, turning the Suns into the most exciting team in basketball with Steve Nash at the point and a young Stoudamire thundering home dunks.

But the two often clashed, a result of Stoudamire’s attitude and lack of effort on the defensive end. Stoudamire has since taken the blame for their head-butting, saying his youth and immaturity were the reasons for their problems. It is imperative that coach and player settle their differences because Stoudamire was a force in D’Antoni’s system in Phoenix. With the possibility that LeBron James doesn’t come to New York, Stoudamire would be a great consolation prize. Additionally, other players have expressed interest in playing with him in the Big Apple, including San Antonio’s Tony Parker and Denver’s Carmelo Anthony.

The Knicks are reportedly prepared to offer Stoudamire a max contract without waiting for a decision from LeBrown, Chris Bosh, or Dwyane Wade. New York can afford to sign two players to max deals.

Knicks Acquire McGrady From Rockets

The Knicks accomplished stage one of their salary dumping process on Thursday, opening the space for two max contracts after the season when they traded for Houston’s Tracy McGrady and his $22 million expiring contract.

They reached a three-team deal with the Kings and the Rockets in the early afternoon Thursday, right before the NBA’s trade deadline expired at 3 p.m.

The Rockets get Martin and Hilton Armstrong (Kings), Jared Jeffries and rookie Jordan Hill (Knicks), the ability to swap first round draft picks with the Knicks in 2011 (top-10 protected), and the Knicks’ first round pick in 2012; the Kings get Carl Landry and Joey Dorsey (Houston), and Larry Hughes’ $13 million expiring contract (Knicks); the Knicks get McGrady (Rockets) and Sergio Rodriguez (Kings).

McGrady’s biggest value for the Knicks is that of freeing up cap space next year. When McGrady’s contract expires, they’ll have enough room on their roster to sign a player like LeBron James, and pair him with legitimate talent.

While the Knicks shave $9.5 million from their cap figure for next year…if they don’t end up getting ‘Bron, Bosh, or Wade, they may end up overpaying for second-rate stars, and could be stuck with a long few years ahead.

Knicks want McGrady

The New York Knicks continue to show a lot of interest in acquiring Houston Rockets forward Tracy McGrady.

The Knicks could care less if they play McGrady or not, but would love to inherit his $23 million expiring contract.

Expiring contracts are always valuable for rebuilding teams, but never before have they meant so much.

With several big-time stars hitting the free agent market this summer, a lot of teams want to clear space to try to land at least one of them.

The Knicks are still hopeful that they could entice LeBron James go spend the rest of his career in New York being the biggest star in the biggest city.

Hughes Out Against Cavaliers on Saturday

The New York Knicks were without Larry Hughes’ services on Saturday night as they traveled to Cleveland to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Hughes injured his big toe against Milwaukee on Friday night, according to Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni.

Hughes had only scored two points in 20 minutes against Milwaukee before injuring himself on Friday night. He’s been used sparingly in the Knicks’ rotation, only averaging 9.6 points in 31 games this season.

After falling out of the active rotation earlier this season, Hughes asked to be traded from the Knicks to a team where he’d have an opportunity to play.

Hughes played with the Cleveland Cavaliers between 2005-08 before coming to the Knicks, having started for most of the Cavaliers’ 2006-07 season where they lost to the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals.

Knicks Thumped by Lewis, Magic; Lose 118-104

One night after stunning the Phoenix Suns with a 25-point blowout, the New York Knicks were back to their losing ways, as the Orlando Magic proved too much for the Knicks, beating them 118-104 on Wednesday night.

Magic forward Rashard Lewis, who missed the first ten games of the season after testing positive for elevated testosterone levels, dropped 20 points and 11 rebounds on the Knicks, who had no answer for the Magic’s front court. Magic center Dwight Howard chipped in 19 points and 10 rebounds of his own.

The Knicks were led offensively by Wilson Chandler, who scored 24 points, and second-year forward Danilo Gallinari, who added 20 of his own (a night after his 27/10 performance against the Suns).

The biggest story for the Knicks on Wednesday revolved around guard Nate Robinson, who never entered the game despite scoring 24 points in a loss last week against the Magic.

“It’s something where you’ve got to take the good with the bad,” Robinson said. “Be ready to play whenever you’re number is called. That’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to do everything I can to be that good teammate.”

After firing a shot at his own basket last week and nearly costing his team three points, Robinson has been struggling to find his way back into the lineup.

“We want to win, and if he’s conducive to winning, then he’ll obviously be back in the lineup,” Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni said. “If not, then not. I’m not going to explain everything. I did not play Darko (Milicic). No one asked me about that. Why didn’t I play Marcus (Landry) last game? We could go through the whole thing.

Robinson Wasn’t Benched for Shooting at Wrong Basket

Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni said that he didn’t bench guard Nate Robinson for shooting at the wrong basket during the Knicks’ game with the Nets this weekend.

Robinson received an inbound pass with 0.5 seconds left in the first quarter, turned, and shot the ball towards his own basket. The shot went in, but Robinson had shot it after the buzzer went off, meaning that the Nets would not be credited with the three points.

“When you’re 2-9, which we were at the time, I think any distractions are bad,” D’Antoni said Sunday. “If our whole focus is not on trying to win and turn this thing around, then it’s not right and it’s not something we want to do, and it’s just one incident and we’ll go on and we’ll see what happens today.”

Robinson did not re-enter the game after making the near-folly, with D’Antoni leaning on the rest of his backcourt to anchor them against the winless Nets. He only played six minutes all game.

D’Antoni has reportedly been miffed by Robinson’s perceived immaturity this season. Robinson joked and Tweeted about being pulled over at a traffic stop earlier this summer, which frustrated the organization, but D’Antoni said that he and Robinson were still “cool” after Saturday.

“That’s something that Nate will work on and we talked about it and keep talking about it, but that doesn’t affect his playing time,” D’Antoni said.
