Robinson Arrested for Expired License

PG Nate Robinson may have just hurt his chances at signing a large free agent contract, as he was arrested late Tuesday for driving with a suspended license in the Bronx.

ESPN reported that Robinson was in New York in order to work at a basketball camp.

Robinson’s Twitter page was updated with a series of tweets after the incident, where he explained what happened and thanked a number of people, including the NYPD.

“I thought it was for tinted windows but turns out I had an unpaid ticket and I wasn’t aware the ticket had been mailed to my Seattle address,” Robinson tweeted.  “This resulted to a suspended license. I apologize to the Knicks, my family and fans. I also want to thank the NYPD especially the arresting officer. He was fair and helped process me quickly.

I promise to get this all cleared up.”

Williams Unrestricted After Knicks Fail to Sign

After claiming former Miami Heat PG Jason Williams off waivers last week, the New York Knicks could not agree to a formal contract with him and he became an unrestricted free agent on Friday, according to ESPN.

ESPN’s Marc Stein reports that Williams’ agent, Dan Tobin, believed negotiations with the Knicks would carry on past the exclusive five day negotiation window that the Knicks had with Williams by claiming him from waivers.

The Knicks have auditioned Williams, along with former Pacers PG Jamaal Tinsley and Mavs G/F Jerry Stackhouse in an attempt to patch up their backcourt.  Coach Mike D’Antoni is hesitant to enter the season with Chris Duhon as the team’s primary point guard; despite a record first-half, Duhon broke down considerably in the second half of the season.

Williams, a 10-year NBA vet, becomes eligible to play in games on the one-year anniversary of his official retirement on Sept. 26.

Without Williams, the Knicks remain focused on Milwaukee restricted free agent Ramon Sessions as a possibility for their need for a point guard.

Knicks working out J. Williams

The New York Knicks are working out point guard Jason Williams, but the team has not yet made a contract offer to the former NBA star.

Williams played 10 seasons in the NBA, most notably with the Sacramento Kings, before retiring last September because of complications regarding his wife’s pregnancy.

The electric point guard dazzled crowds with his fancy passing, but his out-of-control style of play and poor shooting eventually led him to fall out of favor with the Kings.

The Knicks are probably intrigued by the possibility of teaming head coach Mike D’ Antoni and his running style with Williams, but don’t hold your breath on this actually working out in the end.
